Most of my thoughts have been documented via microblogging or journaling lately. I'm trying to channel more of that energy into zines, but zines still feel weird! I'm not sure what it is. Once I tap into my zine "flow state," it's easy riding, but I think I'm challenged by the notion that I can make a zine about literally anything. There's an annoying nag in my brain that's like, "what if people think you're stupid and boring?" as if that ever stopped me from BLOGGING. Then again, the title of this post is a reference to an email I received which reminded me to use bearblog since I pay for it every month. Sometimes paying $5 a month for a blog motivates me to write more than inspiration does. I don't like that, but it's realistic I guess.
This is my favorite spread from my first zine. I like the mix of pixel art and collage elements. It's cool to see digital art next to more raw, analog styles.
I invested in an entry-level printer for my zinemaking. The model I chose has an ink system that is notorious for clogging if you don't use it regularly, so I figured it was a good choice for someone (me) who needs that extra nudge to make things.
I hope that after I make a few more zines and further develop my style, I will feel more confident about my output.
