on anonymity

Ever since I embarked on my Poster's Journey in the early 2000s via message boards, blogs, and personal websites, I've simply gone by my first name. Using my name as my brand identity has been my preferred method of maintaining consistency as my interests change all the time. I didn't have to worry about my internet friends losing track of me when I made Memento (2000, dir. Christopher Nolan) my entire personality, for example, because my display name does not typically stray far from this convention.

The problem with using my actual name online, of course, is that I've had to make peace with the fact that my meddling family members can easily look me up and have their own ideas about whatever it is that I'm working on or wish to launch into cyberspace (lol I can't remember the last time I earnestly used the term 'cyberspace'). Anyway this is a long-winded way of saying that I'm surprised "spiders" was an available subdomain on bearblog. My first name is not Spiders. I'm making a half-assed attempt at anonymity for the first time in my internet career because if something is worth doing, it's worth doing poorly.
