bear blog questions challenge
via Ava
Why did you make the blog in the first place?
I missed having an outlet for personal blogging since most contemporary platforms are geared towards monetization/content creation.
Why did you choose Bearblog?
I was feeling nostalgic and looking for a minimalist user interface. I stumbled upon someone's blog about the tiny web. I'm in my 30s so the "tiny web" is essentially what I grew up with as a preteen/teenager.
Have you blogged on other platforms before?
Ohhhh yes. Around age 15/16, I manually updated a text file and uploaded it to my personal website. Later, I had a self-hosted Wordpress blog. Through high school and college, I was on Livejournal and Tumblr respectively.
Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?
I write them directly in the editor.
When do you feel most inspired to write?
I blog usually when I'm sad or when I'm really excited about a new hyperfixation. I try to journal every single day though.
Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
There are very few times when I've let posts simmer as drafts. I usually end up deleting those. I prefer to post immediately, otherwise I start nitpicking things too much and end up in perfectionist hell.
Your favorite post on your blog?
I try not to reread my posts.
Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?
I'm thinking of simplifying things and not tagging my posts anymore. Tagging posts has always been a struggle for me because I overthink categories and utility. I'm not very concerned about making it easy for visitors to find posts on the same subjects. I am happy there are people interested enough in my posts to subscribe via RSS, but ultimately my blog is for me; it's a low stakes exercise in putting myself out there even when it's kind of sloppy and embarrassing.
